Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Where are we located?
I am located in Sparta, Tn.

Where can I meet you to pick up my puppy?

I go to Nashville, TN every weekend either on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.

I can go to Spencer, TN  and Cookeville, Tn usually anytime of the day.

I can meet in other towns as well. Just ask me if I can meet in a certain town and I will let you know.

Can I return a puppy once I have brought him or her home?

Please know what responsibility comes with a new puppy.

Under certain circumstances I will take a puppy back, but your money will not be refunded.

Can I come to your home/facility to see the puppies?

We are no longer allowing kennel visits due to the high foot traffic and the risk of our puppies getting sick. We prefer to let our puppies get all the vaccinations needed to get immunity to the virus/diseases before they are exposed to anything. I do upload weekly videos and pictures of every puppy. We can meet you in Cookeville or Sparta with a puppy you are interested in as long as they have had their first vaccination. We completely understand if you do not want to purchase a puppy from us because of this. There are many other kennels/rescues that do still allow visits if you are interested in purchasing that way. If you need help looking or searching for another breeder/rescue, we are more than wiling to help. Just let us know.

How long have you been breeding dogs?

I have been breeding all different breeds of dogs for over 25 years.

Is my deposit refundable?

No, it is not.

Do you give Military and/or Senior Citizen discounts?

No, I do not. I only give discounts if you purchase more then one puppy at a time. Also, please understand how much work goes into getting two puppies at one time.

What size are your puppies?

A teacup is 2 1/2 - 4lbs full grown.

A tiny toy is 4 1/2 - 6lbs full grown.

A toy is 6 1/2 - 8lbs full grown.

We have breeds that range from 2 1/2lbs to 24lbs full grown. Each puppy has their estimated full grown weight listed next to them.

What are the puppies registered with?

They are all CKC registered and will come with their paperwork.

Most of the my adult dogs are AKC registered, but AKC does not recognize designer mixes as a breed.

Every once in a while I will have an AKC Maltese or Yorkie litter.

Please ask if you are interested in getting an AKC Maltese or Yorkie.

What will my puppy come with?

They will come with their CKC or AKC registration papers, medical records, a baby blanket, bows and some of the puppy food they are eating.

Do you have any references?

Yes, I can give you many references. Just ask for them.

I change the name of the puppy I am getting?

Yes, you can change the name or keep it. It's up to you to decide. Just let us know what you would like to do and we start calling your puppy by the name that you choose so they get used to hearing their name.

Why do you have pictures of Lester Flatt on your website?

Lester Flatt is my grandfather.

What type of coat will my designer breed have?
It is hard to say exactly what kind of hair your puppy will end up having. They could be born with straight hair and then it will turn curly or wavy. If you are getting a designer breed just keep in mind that they can have the hair of either side of the breed or a mix of both. For example: A maltipoo can end up having curly, wavy or straight hair. It can be smooth or a fluffy coat.

Will my Maltese ears turn white?
Yes, as your Maltese gets older the buff spots on their ears and elsewhere will turn solid white. Please look at Bella's picture on the Sold puppies page. She had extremely buff ears when she was a puppy and as she grew up they turned white.

Will my Morkie stay this color?

Generally, they will turn silver.

If you look at the under coat of your puppy at around 6-8 weeks you will be able to take a guess at what their adult coloring will be. If they turn a lighter color they will most likely have the darker color on the tips of the hair. This goes for most breeds.

Medical Questions

When I get my puppy should I take him/her to the Veterinarian?

When a puppy goes into a new home it is very stressful for them. Some puppies stress more than others. Your new puppy is in an entirely new environment with people they have never been around with noises and sounds they might have never heard before, it can be a bit scary for them as they figure out their new surroundings, which can make them stress. When a puppy stresses, their immune system is not as strong as it would normally be, making it easier for them to get a little sick. They can get a little cold, case of coccidia or other parasites, that thrive on a stressed immune system of a puppy. As long as you give your puppy enough resting time, make sure they are eating and drinking they will adjust quickly to their new home. We ALWAYS suggest taking your baby to your local Vet within 72 hours of getting your new puppy to be safe and make sure they are still as healthy as they were when they left us and prevent/stop anything that might have happened from your puppy stressing and being in a new environment.

We also suggest LOCAL and RESPONSIBLE Vet's, not big CHAIN Vet's like Banfield. Please find a Vet that will meet your needs as well as your new pet!!

Has my puppy been given a shot?
Yes, all puppies are given their first round of shots. Depending on how old they are depends how many shots they have been given. They are getting the NeoTech brand of shots for Canine Parvovirus, Distemper and Adenovirus.

Has my puppy been dewormed?
Yes, all puppies are dewormed with Strongid and Panacur. You will get a medical record showing all of their dewormings.

How will I know when to get my puppies next shot?
Your puppy will come with a medical record. On the medical record it will have the dates that they were dewormed with Strongid and Panacur, the last shots they were given, information about the puppy, and the next shot due date. If you or your vet have any questions, please contact us through email or calling.

What is Coccidia?
Coccidia is a parasite. It infects the intestinal tracts of animals. It is not transferable to humans. The puppies can get it from their mothers because they do not have a strong enough immune system to fight it off. Most commonly they get it from stressors, such as new owners, new environment, travel and weather changes. If you notice your puppies stool having blood and/or mucus in it or diarrhea, they most likely have Coccidia. Please take a stool sample to your vet or make a vet visit so that they can give you the medication for your puppy to help your puppy fight off the coccidia. All my puppies are given Albon and Marquis prior to leaving my facility. We clean our facility with Tek-Trol and Sybohenol.

What is Parvovirus?
This is a disease that is HIGHLY contagious! It is spread from dog to dog, and can be transferred from humans/animals to dogs though it only infects dogs. You can bring it into your house on your shoes, tires, hands pretty much anything. Please be careful where you bring your new puppy for the first few months before they have had all their shots. It take about 5-10 days for the symptoms of the virus to show. Symptoms are vomiting, bloody diarrhea, fever, dehydration and loss of appetite. If not treated immediately by a veterinarian, chances are that they will not make it. I clean my facility with Tek-Trol and Oxine. Tek-Trol and Oxine solution kills Parvovirous. You can also use bleach. We also use a high titter vaccination to prevent Parvovirus.

Puppy Care Questions

What do I need to buy before I get my puppy?

You will need to buy a bag of dog food. Taste of the Wild Puppy is what I feed them.

Some treats for training. Natural Balance or Wellness Brand are good treats.

A play pen or a crate. I recommend a playpen, but some people prefer crate training.

Puppy Pads.

A comfy bed. You might want to buy two beds, in case of an accident on the one bed.

Some safe chew and play toys.

A collar and a leash or a harness and a leash, we recommend harnesses.

A steel bristle brush, not a soft bristle.

Please look at the Puppy Supplies page for more information.

What is my puppy used to being in?
Your puppy is used to being in an open top 4x5 inside area with a doggy door that leads outside to a 4x10 outside concreted area. They have access to their food and water 24/7. They have their comfy bed, blanket and toys in there as well. They also, if they are still being paper trained, will have newspaper down in a corner of the pen so that they learn to use the newspaper/puppy pad as their bathroom. WE DO NOT CRATE TRAIN!

Do you crate train your puppies?

No, we do not crate train our puppies. If you would like to crate train, please get them adjusted to a crate before hand. To do this you need to gate off an area or have a play pen area set up for them. Put the crate inside of the area with them. Make sure to leave the door open on the crate or just take the door off of the crate for the first week. Get your puppy used to closing the door while they are in and out of the crate. Make it a safe place for your puppy to stay, never use the crate as a form of discipline. Give your puppy treats for staying in the crate and for being quite and well behaved while in the crate. Make sure not to give to many treats though, you do not want them going to the bathroom in their crate, so just a tiny piece of a treat will be fine. Over about 2-4 weeks, your puppy will understand and learn how to use his/her crate properly.

TEACUP SIZE: We NEVER suggest crating a teacup sized puppy. Always make sure the teacup size puppies have enough heat and blankets to stay warm, away from drafts and ALWAYS have access to their food and water for their whole life.

Will my puppy be on a eating schedule when I get him or her?

No, they will not. They will be used to having their food and water out for the 24-7. Since they are so tiny, you want to make sure that they are eating when they are hungry. If you try and make them eat when you want them to eat they might not want to eat. Once your puppy has been in your house and has adjusted well, you can start a scheduled eating routine.  Please make sure they are eating... I can not stress this enough!

What kind of food are you feeding the puppies?

They are being fed Taste of the Wild Puppy.

Where can I purchase the Taste of the Wild Puppy food?

You can get it at any Tractor Supply. You can go to their website and put in your location and find the closest place to purchase this brand of dog food.

You can also purchase it off of and have it shipped to your home.

Why do I need to give my puppy filtered or bottled water?

I recommend giving your puppy filtered or bottled water for the first 6 months because there are parasites and bacteria that can be harmful to your puppy. When they are around 6 months old they have a much stronger immune system to fight off harmful parasites and bacteria.
